FLUSHING MEADOWS | new beginnings

On a chilly afternoon, I accompanied photographer Ross Wheeler to lower Flushing Meadows Corona Park an area south of the more famous former 1939 World’s Fair grounds. Set between two expressways we were never far from the drone of cars, yet at times it felt like we’d entered a remote patch of forgotten land. In the early 1900s, the area was filled in with ash to make room for the growth of industry. Today the park is managed by NYC Dept of Parks & Recreation and various conservation groups.
