dreaming of a better place

In the summer of 2018, as political opposition to immigration flared up in several cities in Saxon and southern Germany, I went out with photographer Gundula Friese and set out to have conversations with passer-bys in three parks in Berlin, Litchtenberg.

We went to Fennfuhl Park, Obersee, and Orankansee and asked people why they were there, what they liked about the park, and what they would do to make the world a better place.

The responses were sincere and generous.

Of course, maybe we can say that people who would take time out of their day to speak to strangers are on average more generous.

But I have a feeling that framing is powerful. And if we ask others, or even ourselves, what can make something better, we think in terms of solutions.
