MONUMENTAL | it wasn’t yours

The first time I saw the Bismarck monument I was disturbed by the iconography of power, domination and colonialism. The monument, like much of our history, needed to be contextualized.

Several months later I learned of Nathalie Anguezomo Mba Bikoro’s installation, which brings voice to African people impacted by the colonies, by way of excerpts from the colonial archive.
