VOLKSPARK HUMBOLDTHAIN | why am i here

Filmed: February 14, 2018
Location: Volkspark Humboldthain

ABOUT THE VIDEO

On Valentine’s Day in Berlin the sun was out. So fighting a cold, Gundula and I decided to take advantage of the sun and bike to a nearby park.

This was our first filming outing in Volkspark Humboldthain and because we have an interest in the Trümmerfrauen story (the women who helped remove the bricks from buildings bombed during World War II) I thought we would end up going to see the Trümmerberg (hill made of building rubble).

Instead, this bench caught my attention. Looking like a transit stop set in the middle of the path deep in the park it struck me as odd and charming. So we stopped and I set my gaze on the park bench and the surrounding area.

The words here are mine. Having decided to stay another year in Berlin (and yes, this project has something to do with that decision) I’ve been reflecting on why I am here and what it means to be in Berlin right now.

Here, I share this very personal reflection with you.
