Es war fr\u00fch, vielleicht um 8.30 Uhr an einem kalten Februarmorgen, und mein Freund und ich gingen spazieren, um uns eine Tasse Kaffee zu holen, um uns aufzuw\u00e4rmen und zu feiern.<\/p>\n Die Trampolinsichtung war das Sahneh\u00e4ubchen auf dem Kuchen.<\/p>\n Die Trampoline von Berlin sind ziemlich versteckt. Mir ist jetzt klar, dass ich an vielen vorbeigegangen bin (und es wahrscheinlich immer noch tue), ohne zu merken, dass sie da sind, weil sie oft b\u00fcndig mit dem umgebenden B\u00fcrgersteig abschlie\u00dfen.<\/p>\n Dies sind nicht die freistehenden Trampoline, die man in gro\u00dfen offenen Hinterh\u00f6fen sieht, wo man hoch springen oder hinunterfliegen und in den Himmel schauen kann.<\/p>\n Vielmehr befinden sich diese auf Bodenh\u00f6he, kleine Quadrate oder Kreise, oft in einer Reihe von zwei oder vier. Manchmal sieht man kleine Kinder auf ihnen h\u00fcpfen oder von einem zum n\u00e4chsten springen.<\/p>\n Der Boden unter diesen Quadraten oder Kreisen ist weniger als einen Meter tief ausgegraben, aber so tief, dass ein Erwachsener darauf h\u00fcpfen kann, ohne den Boden zu treffen, und so tief, dass ein kleines Kind springen kann.<\/p>\n Gelegentlich sieht man Erwachsene h\u00fcpfen. Einige dieser Parkpl\u00e4tze wurden als Teil der Berliner Gesetze in den Komplex eingebaut, um eine ausreichende Sonneneinstrahlung f\u00fcr alle Wohnungsbewohner zu gew\u00e4hrleisten. Andere Spielpl\u00e4tze waren das Ergebnis der Bombenangriffe w\u00e4hrend des Zweiten Weltkriegs und des Mangels an Geld f\u00fcr den Wiederaufbau.<\/p>\n Und dann gibt es einige an unerwarteten Orten. Man erz\u00e4hlte mir von einem Satz Trampoline am Fu\u00dfe des Fernsehturms am Alexanderplatz.<\/p>\n Als ich anfing, nach Trampolinen zu suchen, schrubbte ich das Web auf der Suche nach einer Datenbank f\u00fcr Trampoline. Ich \u00fcberpr\u00fcfte die Website der Regierung, Blogs, Parkinformationen, konnte aber keine Liste finden. Also machte ich mich mit dem Fahrrad auf die Suche.<\/p>\n Bei meinem ersten engagierten Ausflug gelang es mir, eine sch\u00f6ne Reihe von Trampolinen zu finden, die sich \u00fcber dem Spielplatz erhob, der leicht in einen H\u00fcgel aus recyceltem Material eingebettet war. Dadurch entstand mehr Platz unter dem ausgestreckten Gummi, so dass meine Freundin Julia \u00fcber den Minitrampolinberg springen konnte.<\/p>\n Urspr\u00fcnglich dachte ich, ich w\u00fcrde Trampoline im gro\u00dfen Volkspark Friedrichshain finden. Wir fanden Beach-Volleyball-Pl\u00e4tze, eine Kletterwand, einen Mini-Skatepark, die halbsilberne Kuppel, die ich inzwischen in den Berliner Parks wiedererkenne, Grillpl\u00e4tze, eine Laufbahn und viel Gras, eine Mutter-Kind-Statue, aber keine Trampoline. Sp\u00e4ter wurde mir klar, dass wir nur einen Bruchteil des Parks abgedeckt hatten. Aber auch wenn ich seitdem mehrere Fahrten gemacht habe, ist es mir immer noch nicht gelungen, dort Trampoline zu finden.<\/p>\n Entt\u00e4uscht, aber immer noch hoffnungsvoll beschlossen wir, mit dem Fahrrad zum n\u00e4chsten gro\u00dfen Park zu fahren. Auf einem zuf\u00e4lligen Weg, den wir w\u00e4hlten, um die Hauptstra\u00dfe zu vermeiden, sahen wir diesen kleinen Park auf einem Eckgrundst\u00fcck, auf dem gro\u00dfe Geb\u00e4ude neben ihm aufragten. Keine kleine Aufgabe. It left quite an impression on me. Ever since that time, I\u2019ve been looking for hidden trampolines.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span> The trampoline sighting was icing on the cake.<\/p> The trampolines of Berlin are quite hidden. I now realize I've passed by many (and probably still do) without realizing they are there because they are often flush with the surrounding sidewalk.<\/p> These are not the freestanding trampolines one sees in large open backyards, where one can jump high or flop down and look up at the sky.<\/p> Rather, these are at ground level, small squares or circles, often in a set of two or four. You can sometimes see small children bouncing on them or jumping from one to the next.<\/p> The ground beneath these squares or circles is dug out less than a meter deep, but enough to allow an adult to bounce without hitting bottom, and enough for a small child to jump.<\/p> Occasionally, you see adults bouncing. Bouncing is quite good for cleansing the lymphatic system. Finding the trampolines has been challenging, partly because they blend into the pavement or surroundings, but also because many of them are located in small corner parks on large apartment blocks. Some of these park spaces were built into the complex as part of Berlin\u2019s laws to assure for adequate sunlight for all apartment dwellers. Other playgrounds were the result of the bombings during the Second World War and lack of money for reconstruction.<\/span><\/p> And then there are some in unexpected places. I was told about one set of trampolines at the base of the television tower at Alexanderplatz.<\/span><\/p> When I first started searching for trampolines I scrubbed the web looking for a database of trampolines. I checked the government website, blogs, parks information but couldn\u2019t find any list. So, I set out searching by bike. <\/span><\/p> On my first dedicated outing, I managed to find a beautiful set of trampolines that rose above the playground slightly set into a mound of recycled material. This gave more space beneath the stretched-out rubber allowing my friend Julia to jump across the mini-trampoline mountain.<\/span><\/p> I originally thought I\u2019d find trampolines in the large Volkspark Friedrichshain. We found beach volleyball courts, a climbing wall, mini-skate park, the half silver dome that I\u2019ve now come to recognize across Berlin parks, BBQ areas, a running track and lots of grass, a mother and child statue but no trampolines. I came to realize later that we had only covered a fraction of the park. But even though I've done multiple trips since that time, I still haven\u2019t managed to find any trampolines there.<\/span><\/p> Disappointed but still hopeful we decided to bike to the nearest big park. It was along the way on a random route we chose to avoid the main street that we saw this small park on a corner plot where large buildings towered beside it. Low and behold, there were two young girls bouncing on the rubber mountain. <\/span><\/p> We had to wait our turn but we did get to jump and film.<\/span><\/p> I feel like to find the trampolines in Berlin I would have to treat it like a surveyor and make my way to each playground. Not a small task. So I tabled that idea while working on the main part of Park Project Berlin, collecting video and conversations each week over the year.<\/span> I\u2019ve had this idea for over a year now; an idea to create a trampoline database. So far I\u2019ve found nine sets of trampolines. Only 9! (Update as of October 2018, I've found 14.) <\/span><\/p> I have to\u00a0believe there are more trampolines hidden around Berlin.<\/span><\/p> The job of discovering the trampolines of Berlin is not a one-person job.
